Nevertheless, there have been case reports of individuals consuming large amounts of wild lettuce experiencing anticholinergic-related side effects, such as constipation, dry mouth, dizziness, and sweating. Therefore, if you are already taking a drug with anticholinergic effects, you should be cautious about combining it with wild lettuce as the risk of side effects may be increased.

Here's the gist for meclizine (Antivert) and wild lettuce. Meclizine is an antihistamine that already carries mild anticholinergic activity, which is part of why it can leave you feeling drowsy or give you a dry mouth. Wild lettuce, on top of its own calming effect, may add a little anticholinergic activity of its own, so stacking the two could nudge those side effects up a notch.

In real life that might look like more drowsiness, a dry mouth, constipation, or feeling a bit foggy. The evidence here is weak, mostly tied to people taking large amounts of wild lettuce, and small culinary or salad amounts are unlikely to matter. Still, since both have a sedating side, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What Is Meclizine Used For?

Meclizine is used to prevent and treat nausea, vomiting, and dizziness associated with motion sickness. This use is supported across many meclizine products, including Bonine, Bonine Max, Dramamine, Dramamine Less Drowsy, Dramamine-N, Naus-ease, CVS Motion Sickness Fast Melting, and Wal-Dram 2 Quick-Dissolving, among others.

Prescription-strength meclizine hydrochloride tablets are also indicated for treating vertigo — a spinning sensation — associated with diseases that affect the vestibular system (the inner ear balance system) in adults. Naus-ease film strips and tablets also list vertigo treatment as an indication.
