Nevertheless, there have been case reports of individuals consuming large amounts of wild lettuce experiencing anticholinergic-related side effects, such as constipation, dry mouth, dizziness, and sweating. Therefore, if you are already taking a drug with anticholinergic effects, you should be cautious about combining it with wild lettuce as the risk of side effects may be increased.

Here's the thing to know about pairing wild lettuce with amantadine. Amantadine has its own mild anticholinergic (drying) effects, and wild lettuce may add a little of the same activity. Stacked together, that could nudge up familiar amantadine-type complaints like dry mouth, constipation, blurry vision, dizziness, or trouble urinating.

I want to be honest about how shaky the evidence is here. It's not clear wild lettuce contains much anticholinergic compound at all, and the concern comes mostly from case reports of people taking large amounts. Normal, sensible doses likely matter much less. Still, since you're on amantadine daily, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding it. Don't change your amantadine on your own.

What Is Amantadine Used For?

Brand names: Symmetrel, Gocovri, Osmolex ER

Amantadine capsules, tablets, and oral solution are used to prevent or treat uncomplicated respiratory illness caused by influenza A virus strains. They are also used in the treatment of parkinsonism and drug-induced extrapyramidal reactions (movement problems caused by certain medications).

Gocovri (an extended-release amantadine capsule) has two specific approved uses: treating dyskinesia (uncontrolled, involuntary movements) in people with Parkinson's disease who are taking levodopa-based therapy, and as an add-on treatment to levodopa/carbidopa for people experiencing "off" episodes (periods when Parkinson's symptoms return or worsen).
