Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the thing to keep in mind if you take Loxapine (Loxitane or the inhaled Adasuve) and you're curious about yerba mansa. Loxapine is a sedating antipsychotic, so on its own it can leave you feeling drowsy, foggy, dizzy, or slowed down. The concern here is simply additive: if yerba mansa has any calming or sedative effect of its own, stacking the two could make that sleepiness or grogginess stronger.

I want to be honest that this is a theoretical interaction based on how these compounds behave, not solid human studies, so it may not amount to much for most people. Still, since extra drowsiness can affect driving and balance, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

“Loxapine (Loxitane, Adasuve) treats schizophrenia, and it causes drowsiness on its own, which is why 78 of the 123 supplement and herbal ingredients on this page deepen that sedation, at the extreme to the point of slowed breathing. Alcohol is the clearest example, with beer and wine both rated major on solid human evidence, and kava s…”
