Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the short version on combining yerba mansa with desipramine (Norpramin). Desipramine is a tricyclic antidepressant, and one of its well-known traits is that it can make you drowsy or foggy, especially when you first start it. The concern here is simply an additive one: if yerba mansa has any mild calming or sedating quality of its own, stacking it on top of desipramine could leave you sleepier, more lightheaded, or slower to react than usual.

I want to be straight with you, though. This interaction is theoretical, based on how the two might behave together, not on solid human studies. Yerba mansa isn't activating or blocking desipramine, so the blood level of your medicine shouldn't really change. Just keep an eye out for extra drowsiness, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding it.
