Amino Complete contains 7 active ingredients that work together as an amino acid supplement. L-glutamine and L-ornithine are individual amino acids, while whey protein isolate, soy protein isolate, and sodium caseinate are concentrated protein sources that supply multiple amino acids.

The evidence for effectiveness in this product varies by ingredient and use. L-glutamine is effective for sickle cell disease and possibly effective for HIV/AIDS-related wasting, postoperative recovery, and recovery from critical illness or trauma.
Whey protein is possibly effective for athletic performance but possibly ineffective for osteoporosis and COPD; the evidence for age-related cognitive decline and HIV/AIDS-related wasting is insufficient to rate. L-ornithine is possibly effective for athletic performance, but evidence for dry skin, insomnia, and periodontitis is insufficient.
Sodium caseinate shows possibly ineffective results for infant development and insufficient evidence for other uses like athletic performance and diabetes. No effectiveness ratings are available for L-arginine, soy protein isolate, or the amino acid blends in the product facts we hold.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L-glutamine is generally well tolerated but people with kidney or liver disease should use it only under medical supervision; it's likely safe in pregnancy and lactation. Common side effects are gastrointestinal—belching, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, nausea, and vomiting—along with headache and musculoskeletal pain.
Vitamin B6 is safe at normal food and supplement amounts, but high doses over time can damage nerves (sensory neuropathy); it's generally well tolerated below 100 mg daily. Whey protein is generally well tolerated by most healthy adults but concentrated supplements aren't well studied, so check with your doctor; common side effects are acne, bloating, cramps, diarrhea, headache, nausea, reflux, and reduced appetite.
L-arginine is often well tolerated short-term but lowers blood pressure and safety isn't established for self-treatment; common side effects include abdominal pain, bloating, nausea, diarrhea, headache, insomnia, and flushing. Sodium caseinate is generally safe for people who tolerate dairy, though concentrated supplements should be discussed with your doctor first.
L-ornithine is generally well tolerated short-term but long-term safety isn't well studied. Pregnancy and lactation safety data aren't available for L-arginine, whey protein, L-ornithine, or sodium caseinate.

The most serious interaction is with levodopa (a Parkinson's drug): whey protein isolate in this product contains amino acids that can decrease levodopa absorption and worsen symptoms like tremor and rigidity—this is a Major interaction. Vitamin B6 in the product may reduce the levels and effects of two anticonvulsants, phenobarbital and phenytoin, at high doses, and theoretically may antagonize anticonvulsants generally through L-glutamine (both Moderate).

Vitamin B6
Amiodarone (Cordarone)
Theoretically, vitamin B6 might increase the photosensitivity caused by amiodarone.
Despite initial case reports suggesting that pyridoxine may have a protective effect against amiodarone-induced photosensitivity, preliminary clinical research suggests that pyridoxine may actually exacerbate this adverse effect.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, vitamin B6 may have additive effects when used with antihypertensive drugs.
Research in hypertensive rats shows that vitamin B6 can decrease systolic blood pressure. Similarly, clinical research in patients with hypertension shows that taking high doses of vitamin B6 may reduce systolic and diastolic blood pressure, possibly by reducing plasma levels of epinephrine and norepinephrine.
Phenobarbital (Luminal)
High doses of vitamin B6 may reduce the levels and clinical effects of phenobarbital.
Preliminary clinical evidence suggests that vitamin B6 200 mg daily can reduce plasma levels of phenobarbital, possibly by increasing metabolism. It is not known whether lower doses have any effect. Advise people taking phenobarbital to avoid high doses of vitamin B6.
Phenytoin (Dilantin)
High doses of vitamin B6 may reduce the levels and clinical effects of phenytoin.
Preliminary clinical evidence suggests that vitamin B6 200 mg daily can reduce plasma levels of phenytoin, possibly by increasing metabolism. It is not known whether lower doses have any effect. Advise people taking phenytoin to avoid high doses of vitamin B6.
Levodopa
Vitamin B6 may increase the metabolism of levodopa when taken alone, but not when taken in conjunction with carbidopa.
Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) enhances the metabolism of levodopa, reducing its clinical effects. However, this interaction does not occur when carbidopa is used concurrently with levodopa (Sinemet). Therefore, it is not likely to be a problem in most people.
Whey Protein Isolate
Levodopa
Theoretically, whey protein might decrease levodopa absorption.
Small clinical studies show that concomitant ingestion of protein or high doses of leucine or isoleucine (100 mg/kg) and levodopa can exacerbate tremor, rigidity, and the "on-off" syndrome in patients with Parkinson disease.
Bisphosphonates
Theoretically, whey protein might reduce the absorption of bisphosphonates.
Whey protein contains minerals such as calcium that bind bisphosphonates in the gut. Advise patients to take bisphosphonates at least 30 minutes before whey protein, but preferably at a different time of day.
Quinolone Antibiotics
Theoretically, whey protein might decrease quinolone absorption.
Whey protein contains minerals, such as calcium, that can bind to quinolones in the gut. To avoid this interaction, advise patients to take oral quinolones at least 2 hours before or 4-6 hours after whey protein.
Tetracycline Antibiotics
Theoretically, whey protein might decrease tetracycline absorption.
Whey protein contains minerals, such as calcium, that bind to tetracyclines in the gut. To avoid this interaction, advise patients to take oral tetracyclines at least 2 hours before or 4-6 hours after whey protein.
