Chest Congestion Formula Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by TerraVita
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Chest Congestion Formula against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy
Chest Congestion Formula is a dietary supplement by TerraVita with 3 active ingredients. HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Chest Congestion Formula by TerraVita
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This formula has three active ingredients: hyssop glycerite liquid extract, eucalyptus glycerite liquid extract, and eyebright glycerite liquid extract. All three are delivered as glycerites — liquid extracts made with glycerin — which makes them easy to take by mouth.
The product also contains glycerin as an inactive ingredient.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence for what these ingredients actually do isn't well established. Hyssop, eucalyptus, and eyebright are all traditionally used for respiratory complaints like cough and congestion, but the research we hold rates all of them as having insufficient reliable evidence to say whether they work for any of those purposes.
If you're looking for something proven to clear chest congestion, talk with your pharmacist about what the science supports.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Hyssop should be avoided in pregnancy — it's traditionally thought to stimulate the uterus — and there isn't enough safety data to recommend it while breastfeeding. Eucalyptus is likely safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding at the doses in this liquid extract, but the undiluted essential oil is poisonous if swallowed and can cause seizures, so only take what's in the bottle and never use straight eucalyptus oil.
Eyebright hasn't been studied enough in pregnancy or breastfeeding to know either way; talk with your doctor before using it if you're pregnant or nursing. Orally, diluted eucalyptus is generally well tolerated, but can cause diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting in some people.
Eyebright has been reported to cause confusion, headache, nausea, constipation, cough, and congestion. Neither ingredient has been reported to cause adverse effects in trial data we hold, but be aware these are possible.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, check your medications against the list below. If you take any diabetes drugs, amphetamines, pentobarbital, or medications processed through your liver's CYP1A2, CYP2C19, CYP2C9, or CYP3A4 pathways, run them through the checker on this page — eucalyptus may theoretically change their levels or effects.
Hyssop has no documented interactions we could check.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This formula combines three traditional respiratory herbs as glycerite extracts, but we don't have solid evidence that any of them work. The bigger issue is that eucalyptus in particular may interact with a wide range of medications your liver processes, diabetes drugs, and a couple of older psychiatric or seizure medications.
If you take any prescription drugs, check them against the tool on this page before you start — and talk with your pharmacist if you're pregnant, nursing, or take diabetes medication.

Chest Congestion Formula by TerraVita Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
TerraVita's Chest Congestion Formula contains three active ingredients, two of which have documented interactions with medications.
Eucalyptus is the main concern — it may theoretically increase the levels of several medications metabolized by the liver (CYP1A2, CYP2C19, CYP2C9, and CYP3A4 substrates), though this hasn't been confirmed in humans yet. It also carries Moderate risk with diabetes medications, amphetamines, and pentobarbital.
Eyebright adds a Moderate interaction with diabetes drugs, theoretically raising the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Hyssop, the third active ingredient, has no documented interactions in our data. Altogether, these interactions span 879 individual medications.
Because these are theoretical interactions based on lab research rather than confirmed human cases, your actual risk depends on what you take. Use the medication checker on this page to search your specific drugs before you start, especially if you take diabetes medication, anything processed through your liver, or any psychiatric or seizure medication.
