Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 2 of its 2 active ingredients.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains 2 active ingredients: hemp oil extract and cannabinoid. You're also getting MCT oil (a type of fat used as a carrier), full spectrum hemp extract, and natural mint flavor as inactive ingredients that give the supplement its form and taste.

The hemp oil extract is the ingredient we have the most interaction data on; the cannabinoid content we weren't able to assess for drug interactions.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Hemp product and its label doesn't state a use — see Hemp's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence on hemp oil extract for the conditions it's marketed for — constipation, eczema (atopic dermatitis), and high cholesterol (familial hypercholesterolemia) — isn't established in our data. All these uses are rated as having insufficient reliable evidence to rate its effectiveness.

That doesn't mean it doesn't work, but the science we hold doesn't confirm it for these purposes yet.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Hemp seed foods are generally well tolerated in normal amounts, but concentrated extracts and supplements like this one are less studied, so caution is advised. In larger doses or supplement form, hemp seed oil appears well tolerated overall.

Rare serious side effects have been reported, including allergic reactions (hives, facial swelling, shortness of breath, anaphylaxis), and very rare cases of elevated liver enzymes and hepatitis have occurred in children given high-dose hemp extract. Allergy to hemp seed is uncommon but documented.

There is no pregnancy or lactation safety information on file for this product's ingredients.

  • For scale: 939 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Double-check this product with your doctor or pharmacist if you take estrogen therapy or hormonal birth control (Moderate interaction risk), blood pressure medications like ACE inhibitors or other antihypertensives (Minor risk), blood thinners like warfarin or clopidogrel (Minor risk), or drugs metabolized through your liver's CYP1A2 or CYP3A4 systems (Minor risk — your pharmacist can tell you which ones). Estrogens

Theoretically, hemp might interfere with hormone therapy due to its estrogenic effects.
In an ovariectomized animal model, a diet containing hemp seed 1%, 2%, or 10% resulted in normalized plasma levels of 17-beta-estradiol. The mechanism of action for this effect is unclear.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Ace Inhibitors (Aceis)

Theoretically, consuming hemp seed protein isolate with ACE inhibitors might have additive effects and increase the risk of hypotension.
Hemp seed protein hydrolysate has shown ACE inhibitor-like effects in a hypertensive animal model. However, hempseed oil consumption does not seem to reduce blood pressure in humans. Until more is known, monitor blood pressure and potassium levels.

Likelihood Unlikely Evidence D
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs

Theoretically, hemp seed might increase the risk of bleeding when used concomitantly with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs.
In animal research, hemp seed at 5% of the diet inhibits platelet aggregation in vitro. However, in human research, taking hemp seed oil 2 grams daily for 12 weeks does not inhibit the aggregation of platelets in vitro.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Antihypertensive Drugs

Theoretically, hemp seed protein may have additive effects with antihypertensive drugs.
In a hypertensive animal model, hemp seed protein hydrolysate reduced systolic blood pressure by a mechanism possibly involving the inhibition of renin and angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) activities. However, there was no effect of hemp seed protein on blood pressure in normotensive animals. Furthermore, hempseed oil consumption does not seem to reduce blood pressure in humans.

Likelihood Unlikely Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates

Theoretically, hemp might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that hemp induces CYP1A2 enzymes.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates

Theoretically, hemp might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that hemp induces CYP3A4 enzymes.

Extra Strength Ideal CBD 25 mg Natural Mint by Barlean's: Common Questions

Does Extra Strength Ideal CBD 25 mg Natural Mint by Barlean's interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Extra Strength Ideal CBD 25 mg Natural Mint has a known interaction with 938 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Extra Strength Ideal CBD 25 mg Natural Mint contains 2 active ingredients, and an interaction can come from any of them. We check every ingredient, combine the results into one list per medication, and show which ingredient and mechanism is responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Does this product have any serious side effects?
Serious side effects are rare. The main ones reported are allergic reactions (hives, facial swelling, shortness of breath, or anaphylaxis in people sensitive to hemp seed) and very rare cases of liver enzyme elevation and hepatitis in children given high-dose hemp extract. Allergies to hemp seed are uncommon but can occur. Talk to your doctor if you have a history of allergies.
Can I take this while I'm on birth control?
Not without checking first. Hemp may interfere with estrogen-based hormonal birth control because of its estrogenic effects shown in animal research. The interaction is rated Moderate, so contact your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product to discuss whether it's safe for you.
Is this safe if I take blood pressure medication?
Possibly, but you need to check with your own doctor or pharmacist. Hemp seed protein may have additive effects with blood pressure drugs and ACE inhibitors, which could lower your blood pressure too much. Don't start this without confirming your specific medications are compatible.
Does this product actually work for what it claims?
The evidence isn't established in our data. Uses like relieving constipation, treating eczema, or lowering cholesterol are all rated as having insufficient reliable evidence. That doesn't mean it doesn't help, but the science we hold doesn't confirm these benefits yet.
Can I take this while breastfeeding?
We don't have safety data on file for this product during breastfeeding. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist — they can review your personal health situation and help you decide whether it's safe for you and your baby.
Is there any way this could make my other medications less effective?
Yes. Hemp may speed up how your liver breaks down drugs that use the CYP1A2 and CYP3A4 enzyme systems, potentially making those medications less effective. Your pharmacist can tell you if any of your prescriptions are affected by checking the list on this page.
