  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

Barlean's Ideal CBD Hemp Oil Natural Mint contains 2 active ingredients: full spectrum hemp extract and cannabinoid. The hemp extract is the source of cannabinoids and other compounds from the hemp plant.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Hemp product and its label doesn't state a use — see Hemp's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The effectiveness data we hold for hemp extract covers constipation, atopic dermatitis (eczema), and familial hypercholesterolemia (a genetic cholesterol condition). For all three conditions, the evidence is rated as insufficient — we don't have enough reliable data yet to say whether hemp works for them.

If you're considering this product for a specific health reason, talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist about what the current evidence actually supports.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Hemp seed foods are generally well tolerated in normal amounts. This product contains a concentrated extract, which is less studied than whole foods, so caution is advised.

Most people tolerate hemp products without problems, though rare serious effects have been reported: anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction), allergic symptoms like hives and facial swelling, and in one case report, elevated liver enzymes in a young child given very high doses. Allergy to hemp seed is uncommon but possible.

There isn't enough data on file to know whether it's safe in pregnancy or while breastfeeding — talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized guidance if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Hemp.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs.
  • For scale: 939 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before you take this product, double-check if you're on estrogen therapy or hormone medications (Moderate interaction risk). Also confirm with your doctor or pharmacist if you take blood thinners, blood pressure drugs, ACE inhibitors, or any medication processed through your liver's CYP1A2 or CYP3A4 pathways (all Minor risk).

These interactions are based on lab and animal research, not yet confirmed in humans, but they're important to clear beforehand.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

This product may be of interest if you're exploring hemp extract, but know that the evidence for its effectiveness on the conditions listed isn't established yet. If you take hormone therapy, blood thinners, blood pressure medications, or drugs processed through your liver, check your medications against the tool on this page before starting — the interactions are theoretical rather than proven in humans, but they're worth confirming with your own doctor or pharmacist.

Allergy is rare but possible, and safety in pregnancy or while breastfeeding isn't clear enough to decide on your own.

Estrogens

Theoretically, hemp might interfere with hormone therapy due to its estrogenic effects.
In an ovariectomized animal model, a diet containing hemp seed 1%, 2%, or 10% resulted in normalized plasma levels of 17-beta-estradiol. The mechanism of action for this effect is unclear.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Ace Inhibitors (Aceis)

Theoretically, consuming hemp seed protein isolate with ACE inhibitors might have additive effects and increase the risk of hypotension.
Hemp seed protein hydrolysate has shown ACE inhibitor-like effects in a hypertensive animal model. However, hempseed oil consumption does not seem to reduce blood pressure in humans. Until more is known, monitor blood pressure and potassium levels.

Likelihood Unlikely Evidence D
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs

Theoretically, hemp seed might increase the risk of bleeding when used concomitantly with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs.
In animal research, hemp seed at 5% of the diet inhibits platelet aggregation in vitro. However, in human research, taking hemp seed oil 2 grams daily for 12 weeks does not inhibit the aggregation of platelets in vitro.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Antihypertensive Drugs

Theoretically, hemp seed protein may have additive effects with antihypertensive drugs.
In a hypertensive animal model, hemp seed protein hydrolysate reduced systolic blood pressure by a mechanism possibly involving the inhibition of renin and angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) activities. However, there was no effect of hemp seed protein on blood pressure in normotensive animals. Furthermore, hempseed oil consumption does not seem to reduce blood pressure in humans.

Likelihood Unlikely Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates

Theoretically, hemp might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that hemp induces CYP1A2 enzymes.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates

Theoretically, hemp might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that hemp induces CYP3A4 enzymes.

Ideal CBD Hemp Oil Natural Mint by Barlean's: Common Questions

Does Ideal CBD Hemp Oil Natural Mint by Barlean's interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Ideal CBD Hemp Oil Natural Mint has a known interaction with 938 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Ideal CBD Hemp Oil Natural Mint contains 2 active ingredients, and an interaction can come from any of them. We check every ingredient, combine the results into one list per medication, and show which ingredient and mechanism is responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Will this interact with my birth control pills or hormone replacement therapy?
There's a Moderate interaction risk: hemp extract may theoretically interfere with how your body handles estrogens, based on animal studies showing it can affect estradiol levels. The exact mechanism isn't clear, and human evidence is limited. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist before adding this product if you're on any form of hormone therapy.
Is this product safe if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
There isn't enough safety data on file to say either way — we don't have enough information to know if it's safe during pregnancy or while nursing. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you in these situations.
What's in this oil, and why?
It contains full spectrum hemp extract (the active ingredient with cannabinoids and other hemp compounds) and a cannabinoid ingredient we couldn't check for interactions. The MCT oil and natural mint flavoring are there to deliver the extract and make it taste better.
Does this product actually work for anything?
The evidence we have covers constipation, eczema, and familial hypercholesterolemia, but for all three, the data is rated insufficient — we don't yet know if hemp extract truly works for these conditions. If you're thinking about it for a specific reason, check with your doctor about what science actually supports.
What are the side effects?
Most people tolerate hemp products without problems. Rare serious effects include anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction), hives, facial swelling, and shortness of breath — allergy to hemp seed is uncommon. In one case, a child given very high doses developed elevated liver enzymes. If you have a history of allergies, mention it to your pharmacist.
Is this safe to take with blood thinners or blood pressure medications?
There are Minor interaction risks with both. Hemp extract may theoretically add to the effects of blood thinners and blood pressure drugs, though human research hasn't confirmed this yet. Check your exact medications on this page's tool and confirm with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.
