Full

Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 4 of its 4 active ingredients.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

HoloImmune contains four active ingredients: two strains of live probiotic bacteria — Lactobacillus acidophilus L-92 and Lactobacillus plantarum L-137 — plus a beta-glucan powder (a type of dietary fiber from fungi and grains) and Lactococcus lactis strain plasma. Together, these are meant to support immune and digestive health.

The capsule shell is made from hypromellose, an inactive binder.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: immune support.
  • We looked for evidence on: Common cold, Lower respiratory tract infections, Respiratory tract infections, Exercise-induced respiratory infections, Otitis media, Postoperative infection — and 4 related terms.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Lactobacillus Acidophilus is rated "Possibly Effective" for Antibiotic-associated diarrhea (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Lactobacillus Acidophilus is rated "Possibly Effective" for Helicobacter pylori.
  • Also on file: Lactobacillus Acidophilus is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Respiratory tract infections, Postoperative infection, Clostridioides difficile infection, Sepsis.

The evidence is strongest for beta-glucans: they're likely effective for lowering cholesterol (dyslipidemia) and supporting heart health (coronary heart disease). Lactobacillus acidophilus L-92 is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), bacterial vaginosis, clearing Helicobacter pylori infection, and preventing diarrhea linked to antibiotic use — though the data for each is modest.

We have no effectiveness data on file for Lactococcus lactis strain plasma or Lactobacillus plantarum L-137.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 2 of the 2 matched ingredients.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 2 of 2.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 2 of 2.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Lactobacillus acidophilus is generally well tolerated in most adults and children, though combining it with other probiotics may cause gas, bloating, stomach pain, or diarrhea in some people — these side effects are uncommon. Very rarely, live probiotic bacteria have caused serious infections in certain patients (such as bacteremia or sepsis); most experts believe this happens when bacteria from the gut move into the bloodstream in people with underlying conditions.

Beta-glucans from food are generally well tolerated, but concentrated supplements have limited safety data, so use caution. In one trial, a child receiving a high dose of oral beta-glucans developed temporary liver enzyme elevations.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 2 of the 2 matched ingredients can interact with medications — Lactobacillus Acidophilus, Beta-glucans.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: immunosuppressants / transplant drugs.
  • For scale: 474 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before taking HoloImmune, double-check with your pharmacist or doctor if you take antibiotic drugs (the probiotic's effectiveness may drop), blood pressure medication (beta-glucans might lower it further), or drugs that suppress your immune system (beta-glucans might work against them). These are the medication types with documented interactions in the ingredients we could check.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

This product may help with IBS, cholesterol, or heart health, depending on which ingredient does the work — but if you take antibiotics, blood pressure medication, or immune-suppressing drugs, you should check your specific medications first. HoloImmune by Healthy Gut: Common Questions

Does HoloImmune by Healthy Gut interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, HoloImmune has a known interaction with 474 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
HoloImmune contains 4 active ingredients, and an interaction can come from any of them. We check every ingredient, combine the results into one list per medication, and show which ingredient and mechanism is responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I take this alongside antibiotics?
Not at the same time. Antibiotics can kill the live probiotic bacteria in this product, so it won't work as intended. Ask your pharmacist to help you space them apart — usually a few hours between the antibiotic dose and the supplement is enough to protect the probiotics.
Will this help my IBS?
Lactobacillus acidophilus L-92 is possibly effective for IBS based on current evidence, though results aren't guaranteed. It's one of the strains in this product, so it may help — but talk with your doctor about whether it's right for your situation.
I take blood pressure medication — is this safe?
Beta-glucans in this product may lower blood pressure on their own, so combining them with blood pressure medication could drop it too far. Check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting to make sure your blood pressure stays in a safe range.
What are the live bacteria actually for?
The Lactobacillus strains are probiotics meant to support your digestive and immune health. They may help with IBS, prevent antibiotic-related diarrhea, or support vaginal health, though evidence varies by use.
Are there side effects from the probiotics?
Most people tolerate them well, but combining probiotics with other strains can sometimes cause bloating, gas, stomach pain, or diarrhea — these are uncommon and usually mild. Very rarely, the live bacteria can cause serious infections in people with certain underlying illnesses.
Is it okay during pregnancy?
Lactobacillus acidophilus is possibly safe in pregnancy, but data are limited. There isn't enough information on beta-glucans or the other two strains during pregnancy or breastfeeding, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist to decide whether it's right for you.
