Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 2 of its 2 active ingredients.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains two active ingredients: cannabidiol and full spectrum hemp extract. Full spectrum hemp extract is the whole plant material, which includes cannabidiol plus other compounds naturally present in hemp.

The product also contains medium chain triglycerides (MCT) oil as a carrier and natural mint flavoring.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Hemp product and its label doesn't state a use — see Hemp's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence for hemp extract's effectiveness isn't established in the data we hold. Our records list effectiveness ratings for constipation, eczema, and familial hypercholesterolemia, but all are marked insufficient reliable evidence to rate — meaning we simply don't have strong enough studies yet to say whether it works for these conditions.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Hemp seed foods are generally well tolerated in normal amounts, but concentrated extracts and supplements like this one are less studied, so caution is advised. Most people tolerate hemp products orally without trouble, though rare serious side effects including anaphylaxis (severe allergic reaction), heart rhythm problems, and liver enzyme changes have been reported in case reports.

Allergic reactions to hemp seed, though uncommon, can range from hives to facial swelling and breathing difficulty. We don't have safety data on file for this product during pregnancy or breastfeeding — talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized guidance if you're pregnant, planning to be, or nursing.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Hemp.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs.
  • For scale: 939 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before taking this product, double-check if you're on estrogen or hormone therapy (moderate concern with hemp), blood pressure medications including ACE inhibitors, blood thinners, or drugs your liver processes through CYP1A2 or CYP3A4 pathways — hemp may affect how well these work. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist first.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

This is a concentrated hemp extract supplement, not a food-amount product, so it falls into the less-studied category. If you take estrogen therapy, blood pressure medications, blood thinners, or certain other prescription drugs, check your exact medications with the tool on this page before starting — the interactions are real enough to warrant confirmation.

A conversation with your own doctor or pharmacist will help you weigh whether it makes sense for you.

Estrogens

Theoretically, hemp might interfere with hormone therapy due to its estrogenic effects.
In an ovariectomized animal model, a diet containing hemp seed 1%, 2%, or 10% resulted in normalized plasma levels of 17-beta-estradiol. The mechanism of action for this effect is unclear.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Ace Inhibitors (Aceis)

Theoretically, consuming hemp seed protein isolate with ACE inhibitors might have additive effects and increase the risk of hypotension.
Hemp seed protein hydrolysate has shown ACE inhibitor-like effects in a hypertensive animal model. However, hempseed oil consumption does not seem to reduce blood pressure in humans. Until more is known, monitor blood pressure and potassium levels.

Likelihood Unlikely Evidence D
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs

Theoretically, hemp seed might increase the risk of bleeding when used concomitantly with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs.
In animal research, hemp seed at 5% of the diet inhibits platelet aggregation in vitro. However, in human research, taking hemp seed oil 2 grams daily for 12 weeks does not inhibit the aggregation of platelets in vitro.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Antihypertensive Drugs

Theoretically, hemp seed protein may have additive effects with antihypertensive drugs.
In a hypertensive animal model, hemp seed protein hydrolysate reduced systolic blood pressure by a mechanism possibly involving the inhibition of renin and angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) activities. However, there was no effect of hemp seed protein on blood pressure in normotensive animals. Furthermore, hempseed oil consumption does not seem to reduce blood pressure in humans.

Likelihood Unlikely Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates

Theoretically, hemp might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that hemp induces CYP1A2 enzymes.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates

Theoretically, hemp might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that hemp induces CYP3A4 enzymes.

Ideal CBD Hemp Oil Extra Strength Natural Mint by Barlean's: Common Questions

Does Ideal CBD Hemp Oil Extra Strength Natural Mint by Barlean's interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Ideal CBD Hemp Oil Extra Strength Natural Mint has a known interaction with 938 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Ideal CBD Hemp Oil Extra Strength Natural Mint contains 2 active ingredients, and an interaction can come from any of them. We check every ingredient, combine the results into one list per medication, and show which ingredient and mechanism is responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
What's the difference between full spectrum hemp extract and cannabidiol in this product?
Cannabidiol is one compound from the hemp plant. Full spectrum hemp extract is the whole plant material, so it contains cannabidiol plus other compounds that naturally occur in hemp. Together, they make up this product's two active ingredients.
Is hemp oil safe if I'm allergic to cannabis?
Not necessarily. One documented case showed a man allergic to hemp seed protein who didn't react to smoked cannabis, which means the allergy was specific to that hemp protein, not cannabis in general. If you have any known allergies to hemp or cannabis, check with your doctor or pharmacist before using this product.
Can I take this if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
We don't have safety data on file for this product during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist — they can help you decide whether it's right for you based on your individual situation.
What does this product treat?
We don't have strong enough evidence in our data to say this product works for any condition. Our records note insufficient reliable evidence for constipation, eczema, and high cholesterol, which means the research so far hasn't been conclusive.
Are there any common side effects I should expect?
Most people tolerate hemp products without problems. Serious side effects are rare but have been reported in case reports, including allergic reactions ranging from hives to breathing difficulty, and in rare cases heart rhythm changes or liver enzyme changes. If you have symptoms like swelling, difficulty breathing, or unusual heart sensations after taking it, seek medical attention right away.
Is this the same as hemp seed oil I might eat in food?
This is a concentrated extract supplement, which is different from regular hemp seed oil or hemp seed in food. Concentrated extracts are less studied for safety than the amounts you'd eat in food, so the caution level is higher.
