HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Jamun Seed Powder by Bixa Botanical
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains a single active ingredient: jambolan powder (Eugenia jambolana). Jambolan is a traditional seed used in folk medicine, especially in South Asia.
The powder form lets you add it to foods or drinks as a supplement. There are no inactive ingredients listed — it's just the powder itself.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence we hold on jambolan for diabetes and venous leg ulcers is insufficient to rate — we don't have reliable data on how well it works for these uses in people. While animal studies suggest it may lower blood glucose, that's not proof it will help you.
Talk to your pharmacist about whether this fits what you're hoping to treat.
How safe is it?
Some data gaps
The fruit of the jambolan plant is eaten as food widely, but concentrated supplement doses like this powder aren't well studied in people. The safety data advises against taking jambolan supplements during pregnancy and breastfeeding — there simply isn't enough information to know it's safe in medicinal amounts.
If you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using this.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this powder, double-check these medication types: diabetes drugs (insulin, metformin, sulfonylureas, and others), because jambolan lowers blood sugar and the combination raises your low blood sugar risk; and drugs metabolized through the CYP2C9 pathway in your liver, including some blood thinners, heart medications, and pain relievers, because jambolan may raise their levels. If you take sitagliptin (Januvia) for diabetes, also flag that — the interaction is complex and needs monitoring.
Use the checker on this page to run your exact prescriptions.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and some safety-information gaps remain.
Jambolan powder might interest you if you're exploring traditional remedies, but it has documented interactions with diabetes medications and a large group of drugs your liver processes. If you take any prescription medications — especially diabetes drugs or heart and blood pressure medicines — check them against the tool below before you start.
Pregnant or breastfeeding folks should skip it. Chat with your pharmacist about whether this is right for you.

Eugenia jambolana, Powder monograph & interactionsJamun Seed Powder by Bixa Botanical Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Jamun Seed Powder by Bixa Botanical contains jambolan, which interacts with a moderate number of medications.
The most serious concern is with drugs that your liver processes through a specific pathway called CYP2C9 (cytochrome P450 2C9 substrates). Jambolan may slow how your body clears these drugs, raising their levels in your blood.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Jambolan also interacts moderately with diabetes medications (antidiabetes drugs). The powder can lower blood sugar on its own, and when combined with prescription diabetes drugs, it may increase the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
If you take insulin or other diabetes medication, you'll need to watch your blood glucose closely — your dose may need adjusting.
One diabetes drug, sitagliptin (Januvia), had an unusual interaction in animal studies: jambolan reduced how much sitagliptin your body absorbs, but blood sugar control was actually better when both were used together. Still, this doesn't eliminate the need to monitor your levels.
Altogether, these interactions span 183 individual medications. Use the medication checker below to look up your exact prescriptions before starting this powder.

For each ingredient in Jamun Seed Powder with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Eugenia jambolana, Powder
Antidiabetes Drugs
Animal research shows that jambolan seed and bark extracts can lower blood glucose levels. Theoretically, jambolan might have additive effects when used with antidiabetes drugs. This might increase the risk of hypoglycemia in some patients. Monitor blood glucose levels closely.
Cytochrome P450 2C9 (Cyp2C9) Substrates
There is some in vitro evidence that jambolan can inhibit CYP2C9. Theoretically, concomitant use of jambolan with CYP2C9 substrates may increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.
Sitagliptin (Januvia)
Animal research shows that jambolan seed extract reduces the sitagliptin maximum plasma concentration and area under the curve by 39% and 22%, respectively. However, blood glucose levels were actually reduced to a greater extent in mice taking jambolan and sitagliptin in combination when compared with either product taken alone. Theoretically, jambolan seed extract might alter the clearance of sitagliptin, although this may not alter the clinical effects of sitagliptin.
