Warfarin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Jambolan interacts with.

There is some in vitro evidence that jambolan can inhibit CYP2C9. Theoretically, concomitant use of jambolan with CYP2C9 substrates may increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.

Here's the gist with warfarin and jambolan. Your liver clears a big chunk of warfarin using an enzyme called CYP2C9. There's some early lab-dish evidence that jambolan may slow that enzyme down. If that happens in real life, warfarin could clear more slowly and build up, which can boost its blood-thinning effect. With warfarin, that's a meaningful concern because it's a narrow-margin drug, so even small shifts can nudge your INR up and raise the risk of bruising, nosebleeds, or more serious bleeding.

I'll be honest: this is only test-tube evidence, not proven in people, so it may not matter much. Still, warfarin deserves extra care. Eating the fruit occasionally is unlikely to be an issue, but before starting a concentrated jambolan supplement, please check with your pharmacist or doctor so your INR can be watched.

What Is Warfarin Used For?

Brand name: Warfarin

Warfarin sodium tablets and Jantoven tablets are both used to prevent and treat venous thrombosis (blood clots in the veins) and pulmonary embolism (a clot in the lungs). They are also used to prevent clot-related complications in people with atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm) or who have had a heart valve replaced.

In people who have had a heart attack, warfarin is used to reduce the risk of death, another heart attack, stroke, or other clotting events. It does not dissolve an existing clot, but it helps prevent the clot from growing and stops new dangerous clots from forming.
