Perampanel falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Jambolan interacts with.

There is some in vitro evidence that jambolan can inhibit CYP2C9. Theoretically, concomitant use of jambolan with CYP2C9 substrates may increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.

Here's the gist for Fycompa (perampanel). One of the liver enzymes that helps clear this seizure medicine is called CYP2C9. Lab studies hint that jambolan may slow that enzyme down. If that happens in the body, perampanel could hang around longer and build up, which might nudge up its usual side effects, things like drowsiness, dizziness, trouble with balance, and in some people irritability or mood changes.

Now, the honest part: this is only test-tube evidence, not something proven in real patients, so the risk is theoretical and may not amount to much. Eating the fruit is unlikely to matter; concentrated jambolan supplements are the bigger question mark. Don't change anything on your own. Just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Perampanel Used For?

Brand name: Fycompa

Perampanel — available as Fycompa and in generic forms — is used to treat partial-onset seizures (seizures that start in one area of the brain) in patients with epilepsy aged 4 years and older. Both the tablet and oral suspension forms carry this indication.

Perampanel tablets and oral suspension are also approved as add-on (adjunctive) therapy for primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures (grand mal seizures involving the whole brain at once) in patients with epilepsy aged 12 years and older. Fycompa oral suspension and tablet share both indications.
