Clomipramine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Jambolan interacts with.

There is some in vitro evidence that jambolan can inhibit CYP2C9. Theoretically, concomitant use of jambolan with CYP2C9 substrates may increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.

Here's the gist: your body uses liver enzymes (one of them being CYP2C9) to help clear clomipramine. Lab studies suggest jambolan may slow that particular enzyme down. In theory, that could let a bit more clomipramine linger in your system, nudging its effects and side effects upward. With this drug that might look like more dry mouth, constipation, drowsiness, dizziness, or a faster heartbeat.

I want to be honest, though: this is only test-tube evidence, not something proven in people, so the real-world risk is likely small. Eating the fruit as food is unlikely to matter; concentrated supplements are the bigger question. Before adding a jambolan supplement, please check in with your pharmacist or doctor first.

Clomipramine — sold as Anafranil and under the generic name Clomipramine Hydrochloride — is approved to treat obsessions and compulsions in people with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). This includes adults and children/adolescents ages 10 to 17.

To qualify for treatment, the obsessions or compulsions must cause significant distress, take up a lot of time, or noticeably interfere with work, school, or social life.
