Animal research shows that jambolan seed and bark extracts can lower blood glucose levels. Theoretically, jambolan might have additive effects when used with antidiabetes drugs. This might increase the risk of hypoglycemia in some patients. Monitor blood glucose levels closely.

Here's the simple version: jambolan, especially concentrated seed or bark extracts, may gently lower blood sugar on its own. Canagliflozin (Invokana) already works to bring your blood sugar down by helping your kidneys flush out extra glucose. Stack the two together and the effects could add up, so your numbers might dip lower than you expect.

I'll be honest with you, though: this concern comes from animal and lab studies, not solid human trials, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Eating the fruit as food is unlikely to cause trouble. If you do try a supplement, watch for signs of low blood sugar like shakiness, sweating, or dizziness, check your levels a bit more closely, and loop in your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Canagliflozin

What Is Canagliflozin Used For?

Brand name: Invokana

Invokana (canagliflozin) is used alongside diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults and children aged 10 and older with type 2 diabetes. It is not for type 1 diabetes.

In adults with type 2 diabetes, Invokana is also used to lower the risk of heart attack, stroke, and cardiovascular death in those with established cardiovascular disease, and to reduce the risk of serious kidney complications — including end-stage kidney disease, cardiovascular death, and hospitalization for heart failure — in those with diabetic kidney disease and high levels of protein in the urine.
