Meloxicam falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Jambolan interacts with.

There is some in vitro evidence that jambolan can inhibit CYP2C9. Theoretically, concomitant use of jambolan with CYP2C9 substrates may increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.

Here's the gist for meloxicam: your liver relies on an enzyme called CYP2C9 to clear this drug out of your body. There's early lab-dish evidence that jambolan may slow that enzyme down. If it does, meloxicam could linger longer and build up, which can mean stronger effects and a higher chance of NSAID side effects like stomach upset, heartburn, stomach bleeding, fluid retention, higher blood pressure, or stress on the kidneys.

I want to be honest about the strength here. This is only test-tube data, so it's theoretical, and eating jambolan as a fruit is unlikely to cause trouble. Concentrated supplements are the bigger question. Before pairing them, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor.

Jambolan (Syzygium cumini), also called Java plum or black plum, is a tropical fruit tree traditionally used for blood sugar and digestive complaints. Human evidence for these uses is limited and not strong, so it should not replace proven treatments like diabetes medication. The fruit is safe as food, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated supplements.

About Meloxicam

What Is Meloxicam Used For?

Brand names: Mobic, Vivlodex, Qmiiz ODT, Anjeso

Meloxicam tablets and oral suspension treat the signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA). The oral suspension and Zybic™ oral suspension are approved for JRA in children 2 years and older; meloxicam tablets are approved for JRA in patients who weigh at least 60 kg. Meloxicam capsules are approved specifically for the management of osteoarthritis pain.

Two IV (intravenous) formulations — QAMZOVA and XIFYRM — are indicated for adults for the management of moderate-to-severe pain, used alone or with non-NSAID pain relievers. Because these IV forms take time to reach full effect, they are not recommended when rapid pain relief is needed.
