Tamoxifen Citrate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Jambolan interacts with.

There is some in vitro evidence that jambolan can inhibit CYP2C9. Theoretically, concomitant use of jambolan with CYP2C9 substrates may increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.

Here's the wrinkle with tamoxifen: it's actually a prodrug. Your body has to convert it into its active form (mainly endoxifen) to do the real work against breast cancer, and several liver enzymes, including CYP2C9, help with parts of that processing. Lab studies suggest jambolan may block CYP2C9, which is why it lands on the interaction list. But honestly, the bigger activation step for tamoxifen runs through a different enzyme (CYP2D6), so the practical effect here is uncertain.

The evidence is only test-tube level, not from real patients, so I wouldn't panic. Eating the fruit as food is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated jambolan supplements are a different story. Since tamoxifen is too important to risk, please run any jambolan supplement past your oncologist or pharmacist first.

Human evidence for these uses is limited and not strong, so it should not replace proven treatments like diabetes medication. About Tamoxifen

What Is Tamoxifen Used For?

Brand names: Nolvadex, Soltamox

Tamoxifen is used to treat estrogen receptor-positive metastatic breast cancer in both women and men, and as follow-up (adjuvant) therapy after surgery for early-stage breast cancer in women. It also reduces the occurrence of cancer in the opposite breast when used as adjuvant therapy.

In women with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS — an early, non-invasive breast change) following surgery and radiation, tamoxifen lowers the risk of developing invasive breast cancer. It is also approved to reduce the risk of breast cancer in women who are at high risk but have not yet been diagnosed. Both Tamoxifen Citrate tablets and Soltamox oral solution share these indications.
