Rabeprazole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Jambolan interacts with.

There is some in vitro evidence that jambolan can inhibit CYP2C9. Theoretically, concomitant use of jambolan with CYP2C9 substrates may increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.

Here's the gist for rabeprazole (Pariet). Your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP2C9 (among others) to help clear this medication. Jambolan, in early lab testing only, appears to slow that enzyme down a bit. In theory, that could let a little more rabeprazole linger in your system, which might mean slightly stronger effects or a higher chance of mild side effects like headache, nausea, or stomach upset.

Honestly, though, I wouldn't lose sleep over this one. The evidence is only from test-tube and animal studies, not real people, and rabeprazole is generally a forgiving drug. Eating the fruit as food is very unlikely to cause trouble. If you're considering concentrated jambolan supplements, just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up first.

About Rabeprazole

What Is Rabeprazole Used For?

Brand name: Pariet

Rabeprazole delayed-release tablets treat a range of acid-related conditions in adults, including healing and maintenance of erosive or ulcerative GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), symptomatic GERD, duodenal ulcers, and pathological hypersecretory conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. They are also used alongside antibiotics (amoxicillin and clarithromycin) to eradicate H. pylori bacteria and reduce the risk of duodenal ulcer coming back.

In adolescents 12 years and older, rabeprazole delayed-release tablets are approved for short-term treatment of symptomatic GERD. Both AcipHex and Rabeprazole Sodium delayed-release tablets share this indication set for adults and adolescents 12 and older.
