Rabeprazole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C19 (CYP2C19) SUBSTRATES — the group Uva Ursi interacts with.

Theoretically, uva ursi may decrease the metabolism of CYP2C19 substrates.
In vitro, uva ursi appears to inhibit cytochrome CYP2C19. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the basic idea with these two together. Rabeprazole, your acid reducer for reflux and ulcers, is partly cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP2C19. In lab tests (think test tubes, not actual people), uva ursi seems to slow that same enzyme down. If that were to happen in your body, rabeprazole could hang around a bit longer and its levels could creep up.

What might that feel like? Possibly more of rabeprazole's usual side effects, like headache, an upset stomach, or diarrhea. I want to be honest though: this is only a theoretical concern based on lab work, not something we've seen play out in real patients. It's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist, especially since uva ursi is best used short-term anyway.

Here's the gist for rabeprazole (Pariet). Your body partly clears this acid-reducing medicine using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In a lab dish, uva ursi seemed to slow that enzyme down. If that happened in real life, rabeprazole could hang around a bit longer than usual, which in theory might mean slightly stronger effects or a touch more in the way of side effects like headache, nausea, or stomach upset.

I want to be honest with you though: this is only a theoretical concern based on test-tube data, and it has never actually been shown in people. Rabeprazole is also not a high-risk drug here. Since uva ursi itself should only be used short-term, just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up before combining them.

Uva ursi is a traditional herb used mainly for urinary tract infections, and its leaves contain a compound called arbutin that may have antimicrobial effects in the urine. Evidence in people is limited, and because high doses or long-term use may be harmful to the liver and could be toxic, it should only be used short-term and with guidance from a healthcare professional. Avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

About Rabeprazole

What Is Rabeprazole Used For?

Brand name: Pariet

Rabeprazole delayed-release tablets treat a range of acid-related conditions in adults, including healing and maintenance of erosive or ulcerative GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), symptomatic GERD, duodenal ulcers, and pathological hypersecretory conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. They are also used alongside antibiotics (amoxicillin and clarithromycin) to eradicate H. pylori bacteria and reduce the risk of duodenal ulcer coming back.

In adolescents 12 years and older, rabeprazole delayed-release tablets are approved for short-term treatment of symptomatic GERD. Both AcipHex and Rabeprazole Sodium delayed-release tablets share this indication set for adults and adolescents 12 and older.
