Losartan Potassium falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Jambolan interacts with.

There is some in vitro evidence that jambolan can inhibit CYP2C9. Theoretically, concomitant use of jambolan with CYP2C9 substrates may increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.

Here's a wrinkle worth knowing with losartan (Cozaar). Losartan is actually a prodrug, meaning your liver has to convert it into its more active form, and the enzyme CYP2C9 does a big part of that job. In lab tests, jambolan appears to block CYP2C9. If that blocking happened in real life, your body might make less of the active form, so losartan could work a bit less well at lowering your blood pressure.

That said, this is only test-tube evidence, so it's theoretical and far from proven. Eating the fruit as food is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated jambolan supplements are the bigger question mark. If you take this supplement, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor and keep an eye on your blood pressure readings before changing anything.

Human evidence for these uses is limited and not strong, so it should not replace proven treatments like diabetes medication. The fruit is safe as food, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated supplements.

About Losartan

What Is Losartan Used For?

Brand name: Cozaar

Losartan tablets — available as branded Cozaar and several generic products — are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children 6 years and older. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. Losartan tablets are also used to reduce the risk of stroke in people with high blood pressure who also have left ventricular hypertrophy (an enlarged left side of the heart). Note: evidence suggests this stroke-risk benefit may not apply to Black patients.

Losartan tablets are additionally approved to protect the kidneys in people with type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and signs of kidney damage (diabetic nephropathy). Arbli, the oral suspension form, shares these same approved uses.
