Memory Maintenance Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Memory Maintenance against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains 2 active ingredients. Blueberry powder is a concentrated form of the whole fruit, traditionally used for eye and brain health.
Sunflower phosphatidylserine is a naturally occurring compound found in cell membranes — it's often extracted from plant sources and studied for cognitive support. The capsule itself is made from vegetable material, with inactive ingredients including dicalcium phosphate, cellulose, magnesium stearate, and silica to hold everything together.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Phosphatidylserine is possibly effective for age-related cognitive decline and Alzheimer disease according to the evidence we hold. For blueberry, the data on cognitive decline is insufficient to rate — we don't have strong enough evidence either way.
Neither ingredient has established effectiveness for anxiety, athletic performance, or heart health, though both have been studied for some of these uses.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Blueberry is generally well tolerated as a food and is rated likely safe in pregnancy and lactation. However, concentrated blueberry supplements haven't been well studied in pregnancy or high-dose extracts while breastfeeding — the safety data advises caution.
Freeze-dried blueberries can cause constipation, diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting; one trial found that over a quarter of participants stopped taking high-dose freeze-dried blueberries in the first week due to stomach upset. Phosphatidylserine is generally well tolerated, though long-term safety isn't fully established.
It can cause flatulence, stomach upset, headache, insomnia (especially at higher doses around 600 mg), and nausea — gastrointestinal side effects are more likely at doses of 200–300 mg per day. The safety data advises against use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you start this product, double-check these medication types: anticholinergic drugs and cholinergic drugs (Moderate interactions with phosphatidylserine), then antidiabetes medications, flurbiprofen, and buspirone (Minor interactions with blueberry). Your pharmacist can run your exact medications through the checker on this page.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Memory Maintenance is worth considering if you're looking to support cognitive function — phosphatidylserine has decent evidence for age-related memory concerns. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before starting if you take medications for bladder control, Parkinson's disease, myasthenia gravis, Alzheimer's disease, blood sugar management, or pain relief.
If you have a sensitive stomach, start low and watch for nausea or digestive upset.

General Statements
We guarantee our supplements for potency and purity
Human brain cell membranes are highly enriched with phosphatidylserine (PS). PS levels in these tissues ensure the membrane's fluidity and structure, thus their function. Nerve cells, in particular, depend on healthy membrane function for normal neurotransmitter metabolism and nerve signal transmission. Maintaining brain PS levels can be associated with normal and efficient signalling processes, efficient brain glucose consumption, and other biological pathways that are crucial to ensure normal and healthy cognitive and mental functions.

Memory Maintenance by Vitamer Laboratories Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Memory Maintenance by Vitamer Laboratories contains two active ingredients with documented interactions.
The most serious concern involves phosphatidylserine and anticholinergic drugs (which treat conditions like overactive bladder and certain types of poisoning) — phosphatidylserine is thought to increase acetylcholine levels, which could theoretically decrease how well these medications work. This is rated a Moderate severity interaction.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Phosphatidylserine also interacts with cholinergic drugs (medications that increase acetylcholine, used for conditions like myasthenia gravis and Alzheimer's disease) at Moderate severity — the additive effect on acetylcholine levels could amplify cholinergic side effects.
Blueberry powder carries three Minor interactions. It may theoretically increase the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) when combined with antidiabetes drugs.
It may also raise blood levels of flurbiprofen (an anti-inflammatory) and buspirone (an anti-anxiety medication), though human evidence is limited. Altogether, these interactions span 305 individual medications.

For each ingredient in Memory Maintenance with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Sunflower Phosphatidylserine Complex
Anticholinergic Drugs
Theoretically, phosphatidylserine might decrease the effectiveness anticholinergic drugs.
Phosphatidylserine is thought to increase acetylcholine levels, which could theoretically interfere with the activity of anticholinergic agents.
Cholinergic Drugs
Theoretically, phosphatidylserine might have additive effects with cholinergic drugs.
Phosphatidylserine is thought to increase acetylcholine levels, which could theoretically lead to additive cholinergic effects when used with cholinergic drugs.
organic Blueberry powder
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, blueberries or blueberry leaf extracts might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal and in vitro research suggests that blueberry and/or blueberry leaf extracts can lower blood glucose levels.
Buspirone (Buspar)
Theoretically, blueberry juice might increase blood levels of buspirone.
In vitro research shows that blueberry juice can inhibit the metabolism of buspirone, possibly by inhibiting cytochrome P450 3A (CYP3A) enzymes. However, pharmacokinetic research in humans shows that drinking 300 mL of blueberry juice 30 minutes before taking buspirone hydrochloride 10 mg does not significantly affect the concentration or clearance of buspirone.
Flurbiprofen (Ansaid, Others)
Theoretically, blueberry juice might increase blood levels of flurbiprofen.
In vitro research shows that blueberry juice can inhibit the metabolism of flurbiprofen, possibly by inhibiting cytochrome P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) enzymes. However, pharmacokinetic research in humans shows that drinking 300 mL of blueberry juice 30 minutes before taking flurbiprofen 100 mg does not significantly affect the concentration or clearance of flurbiprofen.
