When taken by mouth in small amounts, European mistletoe appears to be generally well tolerated, but a full safety evaluation hasn't been completed. At high doses, oral mistletoe may cause diarrhea, intestinal cramping, and vomiting.

When injected (parenteral use), it may trigger chills, fever, headache, nausea, or flu-like symptoms — and should only be given by a healthcare provider. Mistletoe is likely unsafe in pregnancy and while breastfeeding; the safety data advises against both.

Raw mistletoe is toxic if swallowed, so only use standardized products, and only under medical supervision.
