What’s inside

Low disclosure
Ingredient Transparency · database check
Low

Most active ingredients don't disclose an individual amount — you can't tell how much of each you're getting.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 0 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • “Proprietary Blend” is a proprietary blend — the label gives one combined amount (0.50 mL) without saying how much of each component you get.

Cedar Bear's Mullein Leaf comes as a liquid extract in a proprietary blend. The active ingredient is mullein, a traditional respiratory herb.

The formula is rounded out with USP Grade Vegetable Glycerine and purified water as inactive ingredients.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Mullein product and its label doesn't state a use — see Mullein's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence we hold shows insufficient reliable data to rate mullein for bronchitis, asthma, cough, diarrhea, or migraine headache. That doesn't mean it doesn't work — it means the studies we have aren't solid enough yet to say one way or the other.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Mullein is generally well tolerated for short-term use, though human safety data are limited. A couple of case reports describe dermatitis (skin irritation) after touching the whole plant or breathing in plant dust, with positive patch tests; one patient also reacted to other plants.

The safety data advise against it during pregnancy and while breastfeeding — there isn't enough information to know it's safe in either situation.

Minor interactions only
Known Interaction Concern · database check
Minor only

Only Minor-severity interactions are documented for these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Mullein.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Minor.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs.
  • For scale: 122 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before you take this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on any blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs — things like warfarin, clopidogrel, or aspirin. Mullein may prolong bleeding time, and your provider may need to adjust your dose or monitor you more closely.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with no assessable stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.

Mullein Leaf is traditionally used for respiratory complaints, though the evidence we hold isn't strong enough to confirm those uses. If you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs, check your exact medications with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.

The same goes if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or have had skin reactions to plants — talk it over with your healthcare provider first.

Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs

Lab tests on extracts from different parts of common and dense-flowered mullein plants show that they do have some blood-thinning effects, as they increase the time it takes for blood to clot. This is likely due to at least one of the known constituents of muellein, triterpenoid saponins. However, the effects appear to be mild and results have been inconsistent. Extracts from different plant parts have been show to have varying anticoagulant strengths, with water-based ones being more potent than alcohol-based extracts.
