Pro-Biotic Mega Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Pro-Biotic Mega against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Pro-Biotic Mega by NaturesPlus GI Natural
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Pro-Biotic Mega contains 38 ingredients, including multiple strains of beneficial bacteria — Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, Bacillus, Pediococcus, and Lactococcus species — along with chicory. These live organisms work as probiotics to support your gut flora.
The inactive ingredients are vegetable cellulose, rice protein, and silica (a flow agent in the capsule).
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for most uses is still being studied. Lactobacillus acidophilus shows some promise for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis.
Bifidobacterium bifidum is possibly effective for IBS and respiratory tract infections. Bacillus coagulans may help with constipation and IBS.
Most other claims — allergic rhinitis, asthma, cognitive function, and anxiety — lack reliable evidence in our data. Because this is a multi-strain product, talking with your doctor about your specific health goal will help you decide if it's right for you.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
The probiotics in this product are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. However, if you have a weakened immune system, are critically ill, have a central line, or are a premature infant, use only under your doctor's supervision — rare cases of bacterial bloodstream infections (bacteremia) have been reported with probiotic use in these high-risk groups.
Chicory may cause gas, bloating, abdominal pain, and belching in some people, and it can trigger allergies in those sensitive to the ragweed family (Asteraceae). Occupational exposure to chicory has caused asthma, skin rash, and in rare cases, anaphylaxis.
For pregnancy, chicory is possibly unsafe in medicinal amounts due to traditional concerns about uterine stimulation. Bifidobacterium bifidum is possibly safe in pregnancy, and L. acidophilus is also possibly safe; data for the other strains are limited or not established, so discuss with your doctor or pharmacist.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check your medications against this product before starting, especially: antidiabetes drugs (chicory may increase low blood sugar risk), and antibiotic drugs (live probiotics may be killed if taken at the same time). No interactions are documented for the other ingredients we could not check, but absence of documented data is not a guarantee none exist — discuss your full medication list with your doctor or pharmacist.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Pro-Biotic Mega is a multi-strain probiotic formula that may support gut health, especially for IBS and antibiotic-related diarrhea, though the evidence for many uses is still developing. If you take antidiabetes or antibiotic medications, you'll need to time this product carefully — check with your doctor or pharmacist first.
People with weakened immunity or serious illness should use only under medical guidance. Talk it over with your own healthcare provider to see if this product fits your health needs.

Pro-Biotic Mega by NaturesPlus GI Natural Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Pro-Biotic Mega by NaturesPlus GI Natural interacts with medications through its chicory, Bifidobacterium breve, B. bifidum, Bacillus coagulans, B. longum, L. bulgaricus, L. acidophilus, L. helveticus, and L. gasseri content.
The most serious concern is a Moderate-severity interaction with antidiabetes drugs from the chicory: it may theoretically increase the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) when combined with these medications, based on animal and lab research showing antidiabetic effects.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
All nine ingredients with documented interactions also interact with antibiotic drugs at Moderate severity. Because these probiotics contain live organisms, taking antibiotics at the same time may kill a significant number of them and reduce their effectiveness.
You'll need to space out your antibiotic and probiotic doses — your doctor or pharmacist can advise on the right timing.
Several other ingredients in this formula — L. rhamnosus, L. plantarum, B. infantis, L. reuteri, B. lactis, Lactococcus lactis, L. paracasei, L. casei, B. animalis, L. fermentum, L. salivarius, L. brevis, and the two Pediococcus strains — we could not check against our interaction data. Altogether, these interactions span 273 individual medications.
