ProbioLac Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by Herbs SRA
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking ProbioLac against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of ProbioLac by Herbs SRA
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
ProbioLac contains 17 active probiotic ingredients — a blend of beneficial bacteria (Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium species) and one live yeast (Saccharomyces boulardii). These microorganisms are designed to support digestive and immune health.
The product also contains one inactive ingredient, cellulose, which is a filler material inside the capsule.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence varies widely across the probiotic species in this blend. Saccharomyces boulardii is possibly effective for traveler's diarrhea, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, rotaviral diarrhea, and Clostridioides difficile (C. difficile) infection.
Lactobacillus acidophilus and several other ingredients are possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome and antibiotic-associated diarrhea. However, for many other conditions — including hay fever, anxiety, cognitive decline, asthma, and athletic performance — the evidence in our data is insufficient to rate.
The product hasn't been studied as a combination, so we can't claim it works for any single condition beyond what its individual ingredients show.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
The probiotics in ProbioLac are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. However, those with weakened immune systems should be cautious, as rare cases of serious infection (bacteremia and sepsis) have been reported in critically ill patients and those with central catheters using probiotic products.
Gastrointestinal side effects — bloating, flatulence, abdominal discomfort, and rarely nausea or vomiting — have been reported with probiotic use, though these are uncommon. One case of rash and itching was reported in a trial, though it's unclear whether the probiotics were responsible.
Safety data are limited, so talk with your doctor before use.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take ProbioLac, check whether you're on antibiotic drugs — these can decrease the effectiveness of the live bacteria in this product, so separate them by a few hours. If you take antifungal drugs, they may reduce the effectiveness of the Saccharomyces boulardii yeast.
Use the search tool on this page to check your exact medications.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
ProbioLac is a multi-ingredient probiotic that may support digestive health, especially for diarrhea and irritable bowel syndrome. If you're healthy with a normal immune system, it's generally well tolerated.
If you're taking antibiotics or antifungals, separate them from this product — take them a few hours apart so the medication doesn't kill the beneficial organisms. If you're critically ill, immunocompromised, or have a central catheter, check with your doctor first.

Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
