What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Taurine Powder against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Taurine Powder by Source Naturals
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This is a single-ingredient product: taurine powder. Taurine is an amino acid your body makes naturally and gets from food, especially animal proteins.
It plays a role in heart health, nerve function, and other processes. The product contains no inactive ingredients or fillers.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence on taurine is limited. It's rated possibly effective for hepatitis and possibly effective for congestive heart failure (CHF), meaning there's some promise but not enough solid proof yet.
For weight loss, the evidence suggests it's possibly ineffective. The data we hold doesn't cover other uses you might have heard about.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Taurine is generally well tolerated in typical doses for up to a year. The most common side effects are constipation, diarrhea, and indigestion.
Rare cases of allergic reactions have been reported, especially in people with a history of sensitivity to sulfonamides or sulfites. Long-term safety beyond one year is less certain, so use only under medical guidance if you're taking it long-term.
While taurine occurs naturally in breast milk, supplement safety during pregnancy and breastfeeding isn't well studied — talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using if you're pregnant or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check your medications if you take antihypertensive drugs (blood pressure medications) — taurine may lower your pressure further. Also check if you take lithium for bipolar disorder, since taurine could raise your lithium levels.
Use the search tool below to verify your exact drugs.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Taurine powder may help with heart failure or hepatitis, though the evidence is modest. It's a concern if you take blood pressure medications or lithium — check with your pharmacist first.
Otherwise, it's generally well tolerated short-term in healthy adults.

Taurine powder monograph & interactionsTaurine Powder by Source Naturals Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Source Naturals Taurine Powder does interact with some medications.
The main concern is with blood pressure drugs (antihypertensives). Taurine can lower blood pressure on its own, and combining it with blood pressure medications may push your pressure too low — a Moderate severity interaction.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The other Moderate interaction to watch for is lithium, used for bipolar disorder. Taurine may reduce how your kidneys clear lithium from your body, which could raise lithium levels to unsafe ranges.
This is especially important because lithium has a narrow safety window.
Alone, taurine has been generally well tolerated in typical doses for up to a year. But if you take blood pressure medications or lithium, check your specific drugs with the search tool on this page before you start.
