STIMULANT DRUGS
Why this applies to Carbetapentane, Chlorpheniramine, Phenylephrine
Carbetapentane, Chlorpheniramine, Phenylephrine falls under STIMULANT DRUGS — the group 1,3-dmaa interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
The ingredient I want to highlight in your Ricotuss is the phenylephrine, which is a decongestant that works as a stimulant on your blood vessels and heart. It tightens blood vessels to dry up congestion, which can nudge your blood pressure up a bit. DMAA is also a powerful stimulant that pushes blood pressure and heart rate higher. Stacking these two together could add up, raising the chance of high blood pressure, a racing or pounding heart, headache, jitteriness, or chest discomfort.
This concern is based mostly on how these stimulants act, not on strong studies of this exact combination. That said, DMAA is something the FDA has banned as unsafe, so I'd steer clear of it entirely and check with your pharmacist or doctor first.
