Selumetinib Sulfate falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Aconite interacts with.

Theoretically, combining aconite with other antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs might increase the risk of bruising and bleeding.
Higenamine, a constituent of aconite, is thought to have antiplatelet and antithrombotic effects. In an animal model of thrombosis, higenamine inhibited platelet aggregation and reduced the size of thrombus formation.

Here's the honest picture: the bleeding concern on file comes from one of aconite's compounds (higenamine), which slowed clotting and platelet clumping in lab and animal studies. That's why this interaction is grouped under blood thinners. But selumetinib (Koselugo) is not a blood thinner or antiplatelet drug. It's a kinase inhibitor that works to slow tumor growth in NF1, so this particular bleeding interaction doesn't really fit how selumetinib works.

The much bigger issue is aconite itself. Even small amounts of the raw plant are genuinely poisonous and can cause dangerous heart rhythm and nerve problems. This is not something I'd recommend a child take at all. Please talk with your child's oncology team or pharmacist before using any product containing aconite.

What Is Selumetinib Used For?

Brand name: Koselugo

Koselugo (selumetinib) is approved for adults and children 1 year of age and older who have neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) — a genetic condition that causes tumors to grow on nerve tissue — when they also have symptomatic, inoperable plexiform neurofibromas (large, deep nerve tumors that cannot be surgically removed and are causing problems).

Both the Koselugo capsule and Koselugo oral granule formulations are approved for this use. The oral granule form is intended for patients who have difficulty swallowing whole capsules.
