Omacetaxine Mepesuccinate falls under P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES — the group Baikal Skullcap interacts with.

Theoretically, Baikal skullcap might increase levels of drugs transported by P-glycoprotein.
In vitro and animal research suggests that baicalein, oroxylin A, and wogonin, constituents of Baikal skullcap, can inhibit P-glycoprotein. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the basic idea with Synribo (omacetaxine) and Baikal skullcap. Omacetaxine is moved around the body partly by a transporter called P-glycoprotein, which acts like a little pump. Lab and animal studies hint that compounds in skullcap (baicalein and wogonin) might slow that pump down. If the pump works slower, a bit more of the drug could theoretically hang around, which in plain terms means a higher chance of its usual side effects, things like low blood counts, easy bruising, infections, fatigue, or nausea.

I want to be honest about how soft this is. This has only been seen in test tubes and animals, never confirmed in people, and it's rated a minor, possible interaction. Still, since omacetaxine is a serious chemotherapy, please run any herbal supplement past your oncology team first.

What Is Omacetaxine Injection Used For?

  • Omacetaxine injection is used to treat adults with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML; a type of cancer of the white blood cells) who have already been treated with at least two other medications for CML and can no longer benefit from these medications or cannot take these medications due to side effects. Omacetaxine injection is in a class of medications called protein synthesis inhibitors. It works by slowing the growth of cancer cells.
