Thioridazine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C19 (CYP2C19) SUBSTRATES — the group Baikal Skullcap interacts with.

Theoretically, Baikal skullcap might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C19 enzymes.
In vitro evidence suggest that wogonin, a constituent of Baikal skullcap, modestly inhibits the activity of CYP2C19 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the basic idea with these two. Your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP2C19 to help clear thioridazine. One compound in Baikal skullcap, called wogonin, has been shown in lab dish studies to mildly slow that enzyme down. If that were to happen in real life, thioridazine could build up a bit, which might mean more of its side effects like drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, or a faster heartbeat.

Now, the honest part: this has only been seen in test-tube studies, never in actual people, so it's theoretical. Still, thioridazine is a drug doctors watch closely because higher levels can affect heart rhythm. I wouldn't combine these without checking first. Please run it past your pharmacist or doctor before adding this herb.

What Is Thioridazine Used For?

Brand name: Mellaril

Thioridazine Hydrochloride tablets are used for the management of schizophrenia — but only in patients who have already tried at least two other antipsychotic medications without adequate results, either because those drugs didn't work well enough or caused intolerable side effects.

Because thioridazine carries serious heart-rhythm risks, it is considered a last-resort option for schizophrenia, not a first-line treatment. It is not approved for dementia-related psychosis or any other psychiatric condition.
