Empagliflozin falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Bay Leaf interacts with.

Concomitant use of bay leaf with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Preliminary clinical research shows that bay leaf can lower blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes who are already taking antidiabetes medication. Advise patients to monitor glucose levels closely. Dose adjustments may be necessary.

Here's the simple version: bay leaf may nudge your blood sugar down a little on its own, and empagliflozin (Jardiance) is already working to lower it. Stack the two together and your numbers could dip lower than expected. With Jardiance alone, true low blood sugar is uncommon, but it's more likely if you also take insulin or a sulfonylurea, so adding bay leaf is just one more thing pushing in the same direction.

To be fair, this is a theoretical concern based mostly on early research, not strong proof. The pinch of bay leaf in your soup almost certainly won't matter. Concentrated capsules or extracts are the real question mark. If you use those, keep an eye out for shakiness, sweating, or dizziness, check your glucose, and chat with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

About Empagliflozin

What Is Empagliflozin Used For?

Brand name: Jardiance

Jardiance (empagliflozin) tablets are approved for several important uses in adults. It reduces the risk of cardiovascular death and hospitalization in adults with heart failure. It also slows the progression of chronic kidney disease by reducing the risk of serious kidney decline, end-stage kidney disease, cardiovascular death, and hospitalization. In adults with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease, Jardiance reduces the risk of cardiovascular death.

Jardiance is also used — alongside diet and exercise — to improve blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes in adults and children aged 10 and older. It is not recommended for blood sugar control in type 1 diabetes (it may raise the risk of a dangerous condition called diabetic ketoacidosis) or in type 2 diabetes patients with severely reduced kidney function.
