Here's the gist for Felbamate and bay leaf. Felbamate isn't a prodrug, so it works as-is to calm down overactive brain signals. The concern here is simply additive sedation. Bay leaf contains a compound called methyl eugenol that showed sedative effects in animal studies, so in theory, large amounts could pile on top of any drowsiness Felbamate causes.

In practice, this is a theoretical worry based on lab and animal data, not real human reports. The pinch of bay leaf you simmer in soup or stew won't matter at all. The caution applies to concentrated bay leaf supplements or essential oils, which could leave you extra sleepy or foggy. If you're considering those, check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Felbamate

What Is Felbamate Used For?

Brand name: Felbatol

Felbamate is not a first-line seizure medication. It is used only when a person's epilepsy has not responded well enough to other treatments and the seizures are severe enough that the serious risks of this drug are considered acceptable.

In adults, felbamate can be used alone or alongside other antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) to treat partial seizures (seizures that start in one part of the brain), with or without spreading to become a full seizure. In children, felbamate is used as an add-on treatment for both partial and generalized seizures linked to Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, a severe form of childhood epilepsy. Felbatol is specifically labeled for these uses in both adults and children.
