Brexpiprazole falls under SEIZURE THRESHOLD LOWERING DRUGS — the group Biofeedback interacts with.

There is some concern that electroencephalogram (EEG) biofeedback might lower the seizure threshold in some patients. Theoretically, combining EEG biofeedback with seizure threshold-lowering drugs might increase the risk of seizure.
Some drugs that lower the seizure threshold include anesthetics (propofol, others), antiarrhythmics (mexiletine), antibiotics (amphotericin, penicillin, cephalosporins, imipenem), antidepressants (bupropion, others), antihistamines (cyproheptadine, others), immunosuppressants (cyclosporine), narcotics (fentanyl, others), stimulants (methylphenidate), theophylline, and others.

Here's the thing to understand: this isn't about how your body breaks down brexpiprazole (Rexulti). Instead, it's about a small, theoretical overlap in risk. Like most antipsychotics, brexpiprazole can slightly lower the seizure threshold, meaning it can make a seizure marginally easier to trigger in someone who is already prone to them. There's some concern that one type of biofeedback, EEG (brainwave) biofeedback, might do the same in certain people.

Stacking two things that each nudge the seizure threshold could, in theory, add up. That said, this is weak, theoretical evidence, and for most folks it won't be a problem. Regular biofeedback for stress, muscle tension, or pelvic floor issues is a different story and isn't really the concern here. If you have a history of seizures, just mention this to your doctor or pharmacist before starting EEG biofeedback.

About Brexpiprazole

What Is Brexpiprazole Used For?

Brand name: Rexulti

Brexpiprazole tablets are approved for two uses in adults: as an add-on (adjunctive) treatment alongside antidepressants for major depressive disorder (MDD), and as a treatment for schizophrenia. These uses apply to both the generic brexpiprazole tablets and Rexulti.

Rexulti has one additional approved use: treating agitation associated with dementia due to Alzheimer's disease in adults. Rexulti is also approved for schizophrenia in adolescents ages 13 and older. Note that Rexulti is not approved for dementia-related psychosis without agitation from Alzheimer's disease, and it is not meant to be used on an as-needed basis for Alzheimer's-related agitation.
