Insulin Lispro falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Bitter Orange interacts with.

Theoretically, bitter orange might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Some clinical research shows that drinking a tea containing bitter orange and Indian snakeroot reduces fasting and postprandial glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes who are using antidiabetes drugs. However, it is unclear if these effects are due to bitter orange, Indian snakeroot, or the combination. An animal study also shows that p-synephrine in combination with gliclazide , a sulfonylurea, causes an additional 20% to 44% decrease in glucose levels when compared with gliclazide alone.

Here's the gist if you use Insulin Lispro (Admelog) and you're thinking about a bitter orange supplement. Insulin lispro is a fast-acting mealtime insulin that lowers your blood sugar. Some early, lower-quality research hints that bitter orange may also nudge blood sugar down a bit. Stacked together, the worry is that your sugar could drop too low (hypoglycemia), causing shakiness, sweating, a racing heart, confusion, or in serious cases passing out.

This is mostly theoretical and the evidence is thin, so I don't want to alarm you. Still, because lispro acts quickly and strongly, even a small extra dip can matter. If you add bitter orange, check your sugars more closely and loop in your pharmacist or doctor first. Never change your insulin dose on your own.

Bitter orange is a citrus fruit whose extracts contain synephrine, a mild stimulant often added to weight-loss and energy supplements. Evidence that it works for weight loss or performance is limited, and because it can raise heart rate and blood pressure, people with heart problems, high blood pressure, or who are pregnant should avoid it. What Is Insulin Lispro Injection Used For?

Brand names: Admelog, Admelog Solostar

Insulin lispro injection is used to improve glycemic control (blood sugar management) in people with diabetes mellitus. It is a rapid-acting insulin analog approved for use in both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Admelog is specifically indicated to improve glycemic control in patients with diabetes mellitus. Humalog Mix75/25 is indicated to improve glycemic control in adults with diabetes mellitus; it is a fixed-ratio mixture of insulin lispro and insulin lispro protamine, and its fixed proportions do not allow for separate adjustment of basal (background) and prandial (mealtime) doses.
