ANTIDIABETES DRUGS
Why this applies to Chlorpropamide
Chlorpropamide falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Black Tea interacts with.
Black tea contains caffeine. Reports claim that caffeine might increase or decrease blood sugar levels. Also, some evidence in healthy individuals suggests that drinking black tea reduces blood sugar.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
Here's the gist: chlorpropamide (Diabinese) lowers your blood sugar by nudging your pancreas to release more insulin. Black tea brings two things to the table that can tug on your sugar in opposite directions. The caffeine might bump blood sugar up a little in some people, while the tea's plant compounds may nudge it down. So the net effect is a bit of a wash, and honestly the evidence here is thin and the interaction is rated minor and unlikely.
For most folks, a normal cup or two of tea won't throw off your numbers. The thing to watch for is whether your readings get bouncier or you notice signs of low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion), since chlorpropamide is long-acting and lows can linger. If you drink tea regularly, keep your habits steady and check your sugars, and chat with your pharmacist or doctor before making any changes.

About Black Tea
What is Black Tea?
- Mental alertness and energy
- Heart health support
- Blood pressure and cholesterol
- Digestive complaints
- Weight management
- Antioxidant support
Black tea is a popular caffeinated drink made from the fully oxidized leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant, and it contains caffeine and antioxidant plant compounds. Moderate tea drinking is generally safe for most adults and may modestly support heart health and alertness, but it is not a proven treatment for any disease. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, sensitive to caffeine, or taking medicines, talk to your pharmacist or doctor.

Chlorpropamide Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Chlorpropamide as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Black Tea — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
