Amitriptyline falls under TRICYCLIC ANTIDEPRESSANTS (TCAs) — the group Black Tea interacts with.

Theoretically, TCAs might bind with black tea constituents when taken at the same time.
In vitro research suggests that the tannins in black tea might cause precipitation of TCAs. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the short version: this is a very mild, mostly theoretical concern. The idea is that the tannins (natural plant compounds) in black tea could bind to amitriptyline if both are sitting in your stomach at the same time. In a lab dish, those tannins made the drug clump together, or precipitate. In theory, that could mean a little less amitriptyline gets absorbed, which might slightly weaken its effect on your mood or sleep.

But here's the honest part: this has never actually been reported in real people. It's based only on test-tube research. If you want to play it safe, just space your tea an hour or two apart from your dose. No need to give up your tea, but check with your pharmacist if you have questions.
