Here's the thing to understand about this pairing: the interaction on file says acitretin can act as a mild blocker of an enzyme called CYP3A4, which is one of the enzymes your body uses to clear CBD. So in theory, taking them together could let CBD build up a bit, nudging up its effects and side effects like drowsiness, an upset stomach, or feeling unusually tired. Notice the direction here: acitretin isn't the drug that builds up, CBD is.

I want to be honest that this is purely theoretical, based on how the enzyme works rather than real patient reports, so it's a low-key concern. Still, since CBD product quality varies so much and acitretin is a serious medication, please loop in your pharmacist or dermatologist before combining them.

What Is Acitretin Used For?

Brand name: Soriatane

Acitretin capsules are approved to treat severe psoriasis in adults. It is typically reserved for patients whose psoriasis has not responded to other treatments, or when other treatments are not appropriate options.

Because of serious risks — including the risk of severe birth defects — acitretin is not a first-line choice. In women who could become pregnant, it should only be used when the benefits clearly outweigh the risks and strict pregnancy-prevention measures are in place.
