Buproprion, Dextromethorphan falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Cannabidiol (cbd) interacts with.

Theoretically, cannabidiol might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro research shows that cannabidiol inhibits CYP2D6. Theoretically, concomitant use of cannabidiol with CYP2D6 substrates might increase the risk for adverse effects from these substrates. However, a clinical crossover trial in healthy adults shows that cannabidiol does not inhibit dextromethorphan, a substrate of CYP2D6.

Auvelity is a combo of dextromethorphan and bupropion, and the dextromethorphan part is cleared by an enzyme called CYP2D6. Interestingly, bupropion itself is built into this pill partly to slow that enzyme down and keep dextromethorphan levels steady. CBD could, in theory, also block CYP2D6, which might nudge dextromethorphan a bit higher and raise the chance of things like dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, or feeling overstimulated.

Here's the reassuring part: this concern comes from lab (test-tube) work only, and a real human study actually found CBD did not meaningfully affect dextromethorphan. So the risk looks low. Still, since product quality varies, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

In vitro and animal research shows that cannabidiol inhibits CYP3A4. In human studies and case reports, cannabidiol has been associated with an increase in plasma levels of the CYP3A4 substrates zonisamide, tacrolimus, everolimus, citalopram, midazolam, and methadone.

Auvelity is a combo pill containing bupropion and dextromethorphan. The bupropion is there on purpose to slow down how your body clears the dextromethorphan, which keeps its levels higher so it can work in the brain. CBD adds another layer here: it can block the CYP3A4 enzyme, and it can also influence how dextromethorphan is handled, so the dose may pile up a bit more than expected.

In plain terms, you might notice stronger side effects like dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, a racing heart, or feeling jittery. This is a real, well-documented direction for CBD with these kinds of medicines, though the exact size of the bump with Auvelity isn't pinned down. Please don't change anything on your own. Just check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

In vitro research shows that cannabidiol inhibits CYP2B6. However, this interaction has yet to be reported in humans. Until more is known, use with caution. Theoretically, concomitant use of cannabidiol with CYP2B6 substrates might increase the risk for adverse effects from these substrates.

Auvelity is a combo of bupropion and dextromethorphan. Bupropion is broken down in part by an enzyme called CYP2B6. In lab (test tube) studies, CBD appears to slow that enzyme down. If that happened in real life, bupropion could build up a bit higher than usual, which could mean more of its typical side effects like jitteriness, trouble sleeping, dry mouth, a faster heartbeat, or in rare cases a higher seizure risk.

Here's the honest part: this is theoretical. It has not actually been shown to happen in people, only in the lab. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but it's worth a quick mention to your pharmacist or doctor before pairing CBD with Auvelity, especially with concentrated CBD products rather than tiny trace amounts.
