Capmatinib Hydrochloride falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Cannabidiol (cbd) interacts with.

Cannabidiol may increase levels of drugs that are metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro and animal research shows that cannabidiol inhibits CYP3A4. In human studies and case reports, cannabidiol has been associated with an increase in plasma levels of the CYP3A4 substrates zonisamide, tacrolimus, everolimus, citalopram, midazolam, and methadone.

Here's the short version: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear capmatinib (Tabrecta) out of your system. CBD can put the brakes on that enzyme, so capmatinib may not break down as fast and its levels can creep up. Capmatinib is active as-is (not a prodrug), so higher levels mean a stronger drug effect and a greater chance of side effects.

With this cancer medicine, that could look like more nausea, vomiting, swelling, tiredness, or changes in liver enzymes and lung-related symptoms. This concern is well supported in research, so it's worth taking seriously. Please don't stop or change either one on your own. Loop in your oncology team or pharmacist first so they can guide you safely.

What Is Capmatinib Used For?

Brand name: Tabrecta

Tabrecta (capmatinib) is used to treat adults with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) — lung cancer that has spread — whose tumors carry a specific genetic change called a MET exon 14 skipping mutation. A patient must test positive for this mutation using an FDA-approved test before starting treatment.

This is a targeted therapy, meaning it works against tumors with this particular genetic driver rather than all lung cancers.
