Why this applies to Glyburide, Metformin

Glyburide, Metformin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Cannabidiol (cbd) interacts with.

Cannabidiol may increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.
In vitro and animal research shows that cannabidiol inhibits CYP2C9. In human studies, cannabidiol has been associated with an increase in plasma levels of topiramate and losartan, CYP2C9 substrates. Concomitant use of cannabidiol with CYP2C9 substrates may increase the risk for adverse effects from these substrates.

Glucovance combines two diabetes medicines. The metformin part is mostly cleared by your kidneys, so CBD isn't expected to do much there. The glyburide part, though, is broken down by an enzyme called CYP2C9, and that's where CBD comes in. CBD can slow this enzyme down, which may let glyburide build up a bit higher than usual in your blood.

With more glyburide hanging around, the main thing to watch for is low blood sugar, things like shakiness, sweating, dizziness, confusion, or feeling unusually hungry. This is a real, well-studied interaction, but it doesn't mean you can't use both. Please check in with your pharmacist or doctor first, keep an eye on your sugar readings, and don't change any doses on your own.
