Ziprasidone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Cannabidiol (cbd) interacts with.

Cannabidiol may increase levels of drugs that are metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro and animal research shows that cannabidiol inhibits CYP3A4. In human studies and case reports, cannabidiol has been associated with an increase in plasma levels of the CYP3A4 substrates zonisamide, tacrolimus, everolimus, citalopram, midazolam, and methadone.

Here's the simple version: your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help break down ziprasidone (Geodon). CBD can slow that enzyme down, which means ziprasidone may clear out of you more slowly and build up to higher levels than usual. Ziprasidone is not a prodrug, so more drug in your system tends to mean stronger effects and a bigger chance of side effects.

With ziprasidone, that could look like more drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness when standing up, or restlessness. One thing I always watch with this medicine is its effect on heart rhythm (a measure called the QT interval), and higher levels could matter there too. Please don't stop or change anything on your own. Just check with your pharmacist or doctor first, since CBD product strengths vary so much.

What Is Ziprasidone Used For?

Brand name: Geodon

Ziprasidone is prescribed for adults with schizophrenia and for adults experiencing manic or mixed episodes of bipolar I disorder. It can be used on its own for acute manic or mixed episodes, or added to lithium or valproate to help maintain stability in bipolar I disorder long-term.

An injectable form is also available for rapid control of agitation in people with schizophrenia who need quick relief. Prescribers are advised to weigh ziprasidone's potential effect on heart rhythm when choosing among treatment options.
