Cucumber and Albiglutide

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Moderate

ANTIDIABETES DRUGS

Why this applies to Albiglutide

Albiglutide falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Cucumber interacts with.

Theoretically, cucumber seed might have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs and may increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Animal research shows that cucumber seed extract can decrease blood glucose levels. Monitor blood glucose levels closely.
Severity Moderate Likelihood Possible Evidence D

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Good news first: eating cucumber the way most of us do, sliced in a salad or in water, is not going to clash with your Tanzeum (albiglutide). Albiglutide already lowers blood sugar by nudging your pancreas to release insulin when sugar is high. The concern here is only theoretical and comes from concentrated cucumber seed extract, which in animal studies seemed to lower blood glucose on its own.

If a supplement also pushed your sugar down, stacking it on top of albiglutide could, in theory, drop your blood sugar too low. Watch for shakiness, sweating, dizziness, or confusion. Honestly, normal cucumber as food is no worry. If you're using a concentrated seed supplement, just check your readings and run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Albiglutide page

“People injecting albiglutide (Tanzeum) once a week for type 2 diabetes are often the same people eyeing supplements marketed for blood sugar, and that overlap is exactly where this list calls for real vigilance. Every one of the 239 ingredients on file touches glucose control in some way, most by adding to albiglutide's glucose-lowerin…”
