Trifluoperazine falls under ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS — the group Datura Wrightii interacts with.

Datura wrightii contains atropine and scopolamine, as well as other tropane alkaloids with anticholinergic activity. Concomitant use of Datura wrightii with anticholinergic drugs might increase anticholinergic effects and adverse effects. Some anticholinergic drugs include amantadine, atropine, belladonna alkaloids, phenothiazines, scopolamine, and tricyclic antidepressants.

First things first: Datura wrightii is genuinely poisonous, and I'd urge you not to use it at all. But here's why it matters specifically with trifluoperazine (Stelazine). This antipsychotic already carries its own mild anticholinergic activity, meaning it can dry you out and slow certain body functions. Datura is loaded with atropine and scopolamine, which do the very same thing, just far more powerfully.

Stack them together and those effects can pile up. Think dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, trouble urinating, a racing heart, overheating, and at worst confusion or hallucinations. This is based on how these compounds work rather than firm studies, so it's a theoretical concern, but a sensible one. Please loop in your pharmacist or doctor before mixing anything like this.

What Is Trifluoperazine Used For?

Brand name: Stelazine

Trifluoperazine Hydrochloride tablets are used to manage schizophrenia. They are also approved for the short-term treatment of generalized non-psychotic anxiety — meaning anxiety that is not part of a psychotic condition — but only when other treatments (like benzodiazepines) are not appropriate.

When used for anxiety, Trifluoperazine Hydrochloride tablets must not be taken for more than 12 weeks, as longer use raises the risk of serious, potentially permanent movement side effects. It has not been shown effective for anxiety symptoms caused by physical illness, depression, or other non-psychotic conditions.
