Here is the gist for trifluoperazine (Stelazine). Part of how this older antipsychotic works involves blocking acetylcholine, the same brain chemical that deanol is thought to nudge upward. So in theory, if deanol raises acetylcholine, it could work against trifluoperazine's anticholinergic activity and slightly blunt some of its effects. Trifluoperazine is not a prodrug, so this is about pushing in opposite directions, not about how the drug is broken down.

I want to be honest: this is a theoretical concern based on pharmacology, rated minor and unlikely, with no strong human studies behind it. For most people it won't cause a noticeable problem. Still, since trifluoperazine treats serious symptoms, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding deanol, and never adjust your medication on your own.

What Is Trifluoperazine Used For?

Brand name: Stelazine

Trifluoperazine Hydrochloride tablets are used to manage schizophrenia. They are also approved for the short-term treatment of generalized non-psychotic anxiety — meaning anxiety that is not part of a psychotic condition — but only when other treatments (like benzodiazepines) are not appropriate.

When used for anxiety, Trifluoperazine Hydrochloride tablets must not be taken for more than 12 weeks, as longer use raises the risk of serious, potentially permanent movement side effects. It has not been shown effective for anxiety symptoms caused by physical illness, depression, or other non-psychotic conditions.
