SEIZURE THRESHOLD LOWERING DRUGS
Why this applies to Venlafaxine
Venlafaxine falls under SEIZURE THRESHOLD LOWERING DRUGS — the group Dendrobium interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the concern with pairing Dendrobium and venlafaxine (Effexor). One of the natural compounds in Dendrobium, called dendrobine, has been reported to act as a convulsant, meaning it could make seizures a bit more likely. Venlafaxine itself can slightly lower the seizure threshold, especially at higher doses, so stacking the two together could theoretically nudge that risk up.
I want to be honest about the evidence though: this is theoretical, based on how these compounds behave rather than real cases in people. For most folks it likely won't be a problem, but if you have a seizure history or take a high dose, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding Dendrobium. Don't change your venlafaxine on your own.

About Dendrobium
What is Dendrobium?
- Dry mouth and thirst
- Supporting digestion
- General tonic/vitality
- Eye and skin health
- Recovery after illness
Dendrobium is a group of orchids long used in traditional Chinese medicine, often to moisten the body and as a general tonic. Human evidence for its modern health claims is very limited, so it should be viewed as a traditional remedy rather than a proven treatment. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding because safety isn't known.

Venlafaxine Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Venlafaxine as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Dendrobium — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
