Ponatinib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Devil's Claw interacts with.

Theoretically, devil's claw might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that devil's claw might inhibit CYP3A4, although this has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for Ponatinib (Iclusig). Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break this leukemia drug down. In lab dish studies, devil's claw appeared to slow that enzyme a bit. If that held true in people, ponatinib could clear more slowly and build up, which might mean stronger effects and a higher chance of side effects like high blood pressure, fluid buildup, headaches, fatigue, or more serious heart and clotting problems.

The important part: this is only a theoretical concern from test-tube research, never confirmed in humans. Still, ponatinib is a powerful drug with real risks, so I wouldn't take chances. Please check with your oncologist or pharmacist before adding devil's claw.

About Ponatinib

What Is Ponatinib Used For?

Brand name: Iclusig

Iclusig is used to treat adults with several forms of blood cancer. For chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), it is approved for chronic phase CML that has stopped responding to — or caused intolerable side effects with — at least two prior kinase inhibitor medicines, for accelerated or blast phase CML when no other kinase inhibitors are an option, and for any phase of CML that carries the T315I mutation (a gene change that makes many other treatments ineffective).

For Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph+ ALL), Iclusig is approved in combination with chemotherapy for newly diagnosed cases, and as a single agent for patients who cannot use other kinase inhibitors or who have the T315I mutation. Iclusig is not recommended for people with newly diagnosed chronic phase CML.
