Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Acetaminophen, Chlorpheniramine, Phenylephrine
Acetaminophen, Chlorpheniramine, Phenylephrine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Dhea interacts with.
Some preliminary evidence shows that DHEA may inhibit CYP3A4; however, the clinical significance of this potential interaction is not known.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
This combo cold-and-allergy product mixes a pain reliever (acetaminophen), an antihistamine (chlorpheniramine), and a decongestant (phenylephrine). The idea on file is that DHEA might mildly slow down a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, which helps clear some of these ingredients. If that happened, the medicines could linger a little longer than usual.
In real life, this is very theoretical and based only on weak, early lab hints, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. The most you might notice is a bit more drowsiness or dry mouth from the chlorpheniramine. Just keep an eye on how you feel, and if you take DHEA regularly, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can give you a personal thumbs-up.
