Why this applies to Celecoxib

Celecoxib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Diosmin interacts with.

Theoretically, diosmin might inhibit the metabolism of CYP2C9 substrates.
Diclofenac is metabolized by CYP2C9 enzymes. Clinical and laboratory research shows that diosmin inhibits the metabolism of diclofenac. A pharmacokinetic study in humans shows that taking diosmin (Venex 500) 500 mg daily for 9 days prior to oral administration of diclofenac 100 mg increases blood levels of diclofenac and decreases diclofenac clearance.

Here's the gist: your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP2C9 to clear celecoxib (Celebrex). Diosmin may slow that enzyme down a bit, so celecoxib could leave your system more slowly and build up to higher levels than usual. We saw this play out with a related anti-inflammatory, diclofenac, where diosmin raised its blood levels.

Celecoxib is an active drug, not a prodrug, so higher levels generally mean stronger effects and a greater chance of side effects like stomach upset, heartburn, fluid retention, higher blood pressure, or kidney strain. Keep in mind this is mostly theoretical for celecoxib, so don't panic. Just check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, especially at concentrated supplement doses.

Diosmin is a citrus-derived flavonoid most often used for vein-related problems such as chronic venous insufficiency and hemorrhoids, and it is usually combined with a related flavonoid called hesperidin. Some studies suggest it may help relieve leg swelling and hemorrhoid symptoms, but quality varies. What Is Celecoxib Used For?

Brand names: Celebrex, Elyxyb

Celecoxib capsules and the generic oral suspension treat the signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis (AS), and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA) in children 2 years and older. Celecoxib capsules also treat acute pain and primary dysmenorrhea (painful periods) in adults.

ELYXYB (celecoxib oral liquid) is specifically approved for the acute treatment of migraine with or without aura in adults — but it is not used to prevent migraines. VYSCOXA (celecoxib oral suspension) is not indicated for acute pain or primary dysmenorrhea.
