Bromocriptine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Evodia interacts with.

Theoretically, evodia might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that evodia extract inhibits hepatic CYP3A4. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist with Evodia and bromocriptine. Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear bromocriptine out of your system. Lab studies suggest Evodia may slow that enzyme down. If it does, bromocriptine could linger longer and build up, which means the usual side effects might feel stronger, things like nausea, dizziness, lightheadedness when you stand up, headache, or feeling unusually drowsy.

The important caveat: this is theoretical. It's been seen only in test tubes, never confirmed in people, so we honestly don't know if it matters in real life. Bromocriptine isn't a prodrug, so the direction here is more drug effect, not less. Still, before combining them, I'd run it by your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on you.

What Is Bromocriptine Used For?

Brand name: Parlodel

Bromocriptine mesylate tablets and capsules (sold as Parlodel and generics) treat conditions caused by too much prolactin in the blood — including missed periods, unwanted breast milk production, infertility, and hypogonadism (low sex-hormone function). They are also used for prolactin-secreting pituitary tumors (adenomas), acromegaly (excess growth hormone), and the signs and symptoms of Parkinson's disease, often alongside levodopa.

Cycloset — a specific bromocriptine tablet formulation — is separately approved as an add-on to diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes. Cycloset should not be used for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
