ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Dalbavancin Hydrochloride
Dalbavancin Hydrochloride falls under ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS — the group Flaxseed interacts with.
Some potential benefits of flaxseed are thought to be due to its lignan content. Secoisolariciresinol diglucoside (SDG), a major lignan precursor, is found in high concentrations in flaxseed. SDG is converted by bacteria in the colon to the lignans enterolactone and enterodiol. Antibiotics alter the flora of the colon, which could theoretically alter the metabolism of flaxseed.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with Dalvance (dalbavancin) and flaxseed: this isn't about the antibiotic getting stronger or weaker. It's actually flaxseed that may come up a little short. Some of flaxseed's benefits, like its cholesterol and lignan effects, depend on the friendly bacteria in your colon converting plant compounds (called SDG) into active lignans. Antibiotics can temporarily shift those gut bacteria, so flaxseed might work a bit less well during treatment.
Honestly, this is theoretical and based on how the two work, not on real-world reports, so I wouldn't worry. Your infection treatment is unchanged, and flaxseed as a food is fine. Dalvance is given as an infusion, usually just one or two doses. If you want, run it by your pharmacist.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Dalbavancin Hydrochloride page
“Everything on the dalbavancin (Dalvance) interaction list points in one direction. No supplement on file makes this IV skin-infection antibiotic dangerous or weaker; instead, dalbavancin can kill the live organisms in probiotic products, so the supplement is the one that loses.”

- Constipation and digestive health
- High cholesterol
- Heart health
- Menopausal symptoms
- Blood sugar support
Flaxseed is a nutritious food rich in fiber, omega-3 fats (ALA), and plant compounds called lignans. About Dalbavancin Injection
What Is Dalbavancin Injection Used For?
Brand name: Dalvance
Dalvance (dalbavancin) injection is approved to treat acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSI) in adults and children from birth through age 17. These are serious bacterial skin infections that require treatment with an antibacterial given by IV.
It works against specific Gram-positive bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus (both methicillin-susceptible and methicillin-resistant strains, known as MRSA), several Streptococcus species, and vancomycin-susceptible Enterococcus faecalis. It should only be used when one of these susceptible bacteria is proven or strongly suspected to be causing the infection.
